Overview
Spinal nerves exit the lower spine and form the sciatic nerve which supplies the leg. Disc bulges spinal stenosis or degenerative changes may irritate these nerves leading to leg pain that worsens with sitting walking or standing.
An epidural steroid injection delivers anti inflammatory medication directly into the epidural space surrounding the nerves. This aims to calm inflammation at the source reduce pain signals and support recovery. In some cases the injection also helps confirm whether nerve inflammation is the primary cause of symptoms.

What Is an Epidural Steroid Injection
A fine needle is guided into the epidural space using imaging guidance. A mixture of steroid and local anaesthetic is injected around the irritated nerves. The steroid reduces inflammation while the local anaesthetic may provide temporary pain relief.
The procedure does not correct structural spinal changes but may significantly reduce symptoms and allow improved movement.
What to Expect During the Procedure
