Ozone Therapy

A specialist treatment used in selected settings where ozone oxygen mixtures are applied locally. Evidence and availability vary and your consultant will discuss potential benefits limitations and suitability.

What Is Regenerative Medicine Treatment

Regenerative medicine treatment focuses on supporting the body’s natural ability to repair damaged tissues. Instead of only masking symptoms, these treatments aim to stimulate biological healing processes within joints, tendons, ligaments, muscles, and other structures that contribute to chronic pain. In pain medicine, regenerative approaches are increasingly used to address musculoskeletal conditions where tissue damage or degeneration may be contributing to persistent symptoms.

Regenerative medicine uses biological materials such as growth factors, platelets, or cell based therapies to encourage tissue repair and improve function. These treatments aim to stimulate healing responses in damaged tissues and reduce inflammation within affected structures.

How Regenerative Treatments Work

Regenerative therapies are designed to influence the body’s healing mechanisms rather than simply blocking pain signals. Many treatments use substances derived from the patient’s own body to stimulate tissue repair and improve the local biological environment. This may help support recovery in tissues that have been injured, inflamed, or weakened over time.

For example, platelet rich plasma treatments involve concentrating platelets from a patient’s blood and injecting them into the affected area. Platelets contain growth factors that can help support tissue healing and reduce inflammation in certain conditions affecting tendons, joints, or soft tissues.

Conditions That May Be Considered for Treatment

Regenerative medicine treatment may be considered for a range of musculoskeletal conditions, particularly when symptoms persist despite conventional treatment. Examples may include tendon injuries, ligament problems, degenerative joint conditions, soft tissue injuries, and certain forms of spinal pain.

These therapies are often used when conservative treatments such as medication, physiotherapy, or standard injections have not provided sufficient improvement. Careful clinical assessment is essential to determine whether regenerative treatment is appropriate for a particular condition.

Assessment Before Treatment

A specialist assessment is important before recommending regenerative medicine treatment. Symptoms can arise from different structures within the body, and identifying the most likely source of pain is essential for selecting the correct treatment approach.

Your consultant will usually review your medical history, examine the affected area, and assess previous imaging such as MRI or ultrasound scans. In some cases additional investigations or diagnostic injections may be recommended before proceeding with treatment.

Recovery and Follow Up

Regenerative treatments aim to support gradual tissue repair, which means improvement may take time. Some patients notice changes within a few weeks, while others may experience gradual improvement over several months as the biological healing process progresses.

Rehabilitation and activity management are often important parts of recovery. Structured physiotherapy, strengthening exercises, and staged return to activity may help protect the treated area and support longer term improvement in function.
